Groups and activities

Young People

We are a child-friendly church, welcoming and encouraging all ages in worship. There is a space in the church for youngsters and their parents. Although we do not currently have a formal Sunday school, most services include a short section specifically for children, after which they can engage in quiet activities at the back of the church.

Fellowship Group

gathers for fellowship and occasional outings at 2pm on the second Thursday of the month in the Morrison Lounge. Speakers cover a wide range of topics. This group of men and women meets from February to November.

Study Groups

From time to time study groups meet for discussion, after church or at other times. Recent topics have included:

  • Talking with Taonga (a chance for participants to talk about some thing that was of value to them)

  • Finding New Favourites (a six-week sing our way through one of the New Zealand Hymn Book Trust song books)

  • Art-Based Contemplation Series

  • Journey to New Edinburgh (ToitÅ« series)

Community

The ÅŒpoho Church buildings and grounds are well used by the local community for activities including exercise classes, weaving, and line dancing.

We actively support environmental initiatives in Dunedin and elsewhere. The hall foyer has a 'waste wall' where we actively support the ÅŒpoho community in recycling and reusing waste.

We encourage people to enjoy our garden where we have a seed-swap cupboard.

For many years we have hosted lively political candidates meetings for local and and general elections. Most years a church fair is held.

We coordinate knitters who knit peggy squares for blankets for eastern European orphanages.

and for fun…

We like to get together from time to time just for the fun of it. In recent times we have had:

  • quizzes

  • games nights

  • pot luck meals, together after church

  • barbeques
