Groups and activities
Youth
We are a child-friendly church, welcoming and encouraging all ages in worship. There is a space in the church for youngsters and their parents. Primary school age children meet at 10am during the school term, beginning in worship before leaving for their activities.
Fellowship Group
gathers for fellowship and occasional outings at 2pm on the second Thursday of the month in the Morrison Lounge. Speakers cover a wide range of topics. This group of men and women meets from February to November.
Evening Study Group
meets periodically during the year. Topics range widely.
Book of the Bible a Month
meets for discussion evenings on the first Thursday of each month, working through the books of the Bible.
Movie Group
gets together in various people’s homes during the winter months to watch and discuss a wide variety of films. These are advertised in the Opoho Signal.
Community
The Opoho Church buildings and grounds are well used by the local community. We actively support initiatives in Dunedin and elsewhere including chaplaincy at Dunedin Hospital, political candidates’ meetings and art exhibitions. Most years a church fair is held.
We coordinate knitters who knit peggy squares for blankets for eastern European orphanages.
and for fun…
We like to get together from time to time just for the fun of it. In the last year or two this has included:
-
quizzes
-
games nights
-
pot luck meals, together
-
picnics
